To become a environmentally friendly company, an organisation needs to acknowledge the effect of its operations on greenhouse gas emissions and then take positive steps to counteract this impact on the environment.
We first commissioned an in-depth report and assessment of its gas emissions from the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Management (ECCM). This took into account not just the movements of our delivery fleet, but also other significant factors such as electricity consumption and fuel used by employees on their travels to and from work.
The final calculation was that our company lets off 220 tons of carbon into the atmosphere each year. This has now been completely offset by the company's sponsoring of the planting of trees in forests in Devon and Leicestershire and providing funds for the establishment of solar lighting in a number of small villages in Sri Lanka.
